Head at Power-On

      This article describes the method for read and write on the
disk of a hard disk drive using a read/write head which has the
offset between the read and write head elements such as a
magnetoresistive (MR) head.

      The hard disk drive has to read microcode or other necessary
information which is written in microcode or other cylinder on the
disk at the power-on sequence.  The read head has to seek to proper
read/write offset position at the target cylinder to read the written
microcode or information.

      In this sequence, there is no optimum read/write offset and
other information until the finish of reading that information.
Thus, the read head seeks with this default offset value because this
default value is the most proper read/write offset value at this
power-on sequence.

      If this read/write offset value is already known, the read head
seeks to this offset value on the target microcode or other cylinder
at the power-on sequence to hasten reading the microcode or other
information.
