Abstract

Prior methods allow office affinity users the ability to delete meeting notices from another user's calendar, provided they have the proper authorization. This situation creates a problem. Some office users do not view their calendar every day or for an entire week. Some users are remote from a computer system, e.g., the traveling user. If someone were to cancel a meeting, a user may not see the notice before leaving for the meeting.

Calendar Delete Event Telephone Notification Mechanism

Prior methods allow office affinity users the ability to delete
meeting notices from another user's calendar, provided they have the
proper authorization.  This situation creates a problem.  Some office
users do not view their calendar every day or for an entire week.
Some users are remote from a computer system, e.g., the traveling
user.  If someone were to cancel a meeting, a user may not see the
notice before leaving for the meeting.

This article describes a method of ensuring that when a meeting
notice is canceled, the recipient will indeed be notified.  When a
meeting notice is canceled, this service will search the directory
database for the recipients phone number.  It will proceed to call
the recipient's phone.  If the recipient picks up the phone, they
will hear a digitized voice message informing them that an event has
been cancelled and give the date of the event and the name of the
person who cancelled the event.  If the recipient does not answer his
phone and has an answering device, a message will be left.  If the
recipient does not answer his phone and does not have an answering
device, the service will continue to call periodically until the user
has actually received the message.  The calling interval will be set
by the individual in a user profile.
