Abstract

In today's electronic office environment, users like to be notified when an important meeting or "to-do" is added to their calendar. When users are not logged on to their office calendar system at the time an important addition is made to their calendar, they may not become aware of the issue until it is too late. An application is needed that will query a user's calendar for a specific location (i.e., 3:00-4:00 Meeting in Room 9890), resolve the phone number for that location by performing the proper enterprise directory commands, place a telephone call to that phone number, and deliver a generic audio message regarding the added calendar event to the user or on the user's phone message recording device.

they may not become aware of the issue until it is too late.  An
application is needed that will query a user's calendar for a
specific location (i.e., 3:00-4:00 Meeting in Room 9890), resolve the
phone number for that location by performing the proper enterprise
directory commands, place a telephone call to that phone number, and
deliver a generic audio message regarding the added calendar event to
the user or on the user's phone message recording device.

This article describes a software application which enables a
NOTIFY option flag/parameter for calendar events to activate a
calendar and directory search and deliver an audio message to a
calendar user who is not logged on to his office system.  The audio
message is a generic predetermined voice notification message that
can also be delivered to the user's message recording device.  This
invention provides extra assurance that an attempt is made to notify
users when an important item is added to their calendars.  The audio
message is activated only when the user is not logged on to his
calendar system.  If the user is logged on to his office system, this
application displays a text message such as "Important...
