Abstract

Prior art allows users to have a meeting interrupted with a phone call, perhaps one that supposedly causes that user to terminate the meeting by a specific time, or that causes this user to be unexpectedly (supposedly) called out of the meeting. This is accomplished by having the system automatically place a pre-formatted phone call at a predetermined time to a phone where a specific user is known to be.

Method for Adding Predicate-Determined Messages to Automatically
Placed Self-Initiated Phone Calls

Prior art allows users to have a meeting interrupted with a
phone call, perhaps one that supposedly causes that user to terminate
the meeting by a specific time, or that causes this user to be
unexpectedly (supposedly) called out of the meeting.  This is
accomplished by having the system automatically place a pre-formatted
phone call at a predetermined time to a phone where a specific user
is known to be.

In preparation, the user pre-records a phone message or a
system-annotated message, and he/she specifies the time the call is
to be placed.  He/she can either specify the phone number to call, or
the system will generate the number to call by checking the user's
calendar and determining where the user is scheduled to be at the
specified time.  When the specified time occurs, the call is placed
and the pre-recorded message is played as soon as the phone is
answered and the first pause ensues.  A method is needed to
disseminate more information to the user than just pre-formatted
information.  The user sometimes needs to be informed of the status
of certain events in the office environment.

This system adds intelligence to automatic self-initiated phone
calls by allowing the user to specify a predicate to be used to
determine exactly what information is conveyed in the call.  The user
builds a rule-based Auto Call (AC) profile for the call in which are
specified predicates consisting of office environment events, as well
as the resulting message to be conveyed when said predicates are
satisfied.

For example, a user requests a self-initiated phone call to be
placed at a specified time.  As per prior art, the number to be
called can also be specified by the user, or...
