Telephone messages are typically static and do not change in response to the condition/location of the owner of the message. Current art allows messages to change, based on items on a user's calendar, as well as to allow callers to reach parties based on calendar entries. There is no means for callers to receive a dynamic message, dependent upon the location and activities of the called party.

      Telephone messages are typically static and do not change in
response to the condition/location of the owner of the message.
Current art allows messages to change, based on items on a user's
calendar, as well as to allow callers to reach parties based on
calendar entries.  There is no means for callers to receive a dynamic
message, dependent upon the location and activities of the called
party.

      Provided is the capability for a caller to receive one of a
number of different telephone messages based upon information
received from the called party's active badge.

      Specifically, the called party's phone mail system is allowed
to query a central repository of location information which is
continually updated by an active badge network.  The system can
deliver one of a number of different messages, based upon the owner's
choices (as stored in a profile) combined with current
location/status information.  Included among the possible types of
messages which can be chosen from active badge data are:

o   In the office

o   In the building (but out of the office)

o   On site

o   On site, different building

o   Off site (returning)

o   Off site (for the day)

o   etc.

      This capability could be further customized by combining it
with existing art like calendar look-up, for supplementary message
data.
