Abstract

Users constantly view their calendars to determine the necessity of their presence at specified events. Electronic calendars allow users to specify a plurality of resources needed at specified events. However, there are a plurality of resources that are needed for the user based on the weather conditions at the specified location of the event. For example, if it's snowing cold in Rochester Minnesota, the user may desire warm attire at the event. In addition, the existence of the event itself may depend on the weather conditions. Prior art provides a plurality of means of updating weather conditions. Such mechanisms include electronic connections to the National Weather Bureau, telephone weather services, etc.

      Users constantly view their calendars to determine the
necessity of their presence at specified events.  Electronic
calendars allow users to specify a plurality of resources needed at
specified events.  However, there are a plurality of resources that
are needed for the user based on the weather conditions at the
specified location of the event.  For example, if it's snowing cold
in Rochester Minnesota, the user may desire warm attire at the event.
In addition, the existence of the event itself may depend on the
weather conditions.  Prior art provides a plurality of means of
updating weather conditions.  Such mechanisms include electronic
connections to the National Weather Bureau, telephone weather
services, etc.  However, each of the methods, typically, require the
user to establish the communique and does not take into account the
mobility of the traveling user.  For example, a traveling
user/salesperson may be constantly changing locations over the
country on a daily basis.  Current art would require this user to
either dial the weather services in the known locations assuming the
user knows all the differing numbers or have a central number for
which the user must manually specify the DTMF navigation to determine
the specified weather conditions at the specified locations.  More
specifically, these mechanisms are not directly cognizant of the
significance of the weather conditions to the user's schedule.  Given
the sporadic change of weather conditions users desire to simplify or
eliminate the above problems.

      This article describes a mechanism by which the electronic
calendar events can be altered based on weather conditions at
specified calendar events.  In addition the invention provides a
method by which graphical weather conditions can be displayed to the
user on an electronic calendar.

Essential Elements:

o   Location Association Engine - This mechanism associates specified
    calendar events with geographical locations.  In addition, it
