Heat Head

      Disclosed is a device for reducing the stiction torque of a
Hard Disk Drive.  This device comprises a slider having a heater to
decrease the viscosity of the lubricant on the disk surface.

      The Figure shows an example of the device.  The slider has the
heater on both sides to heat its air bearing surface.  When the Hard
Disk Drive is powered, before the spindle motor rotates, the side
heater heats the air bearing surface.  By the heating, the viscosity
of the lubricant under the slider becomes lower than the ordinary
value.  Therefore, the stiction torque of the Hard Disk Drive can be
reduced.

      This device is useful for the application of a higher lubricant
thickness disk.  For example, this is useful for lower fly height or
contact recording.
