Abstract

A means was sought to provide a fixed reference point for the machine vision camera used in an inspection workstation. The workstation vision system uses an Oblique Vision Microscope (OVM) to measure the size and shape of shadows cast by individual features on a Device Under Test (DUT). The Universal C-Mount Knife Edge/Camera Rotation System meets this requirement, providing an adjustable reference line with a known grey level for image analysis using a camera with a C-Mount lens adapter. This mechanism permits full 360-degree rotation, depth adjustment, fine degree rotation and lock, and centering for the camera.

Knife Edge Camera Rotation System

A means was sought to provide a fixed reference point for the
machine vision camera used in an inspection workstation.  The
workstation vision system uses an Oblique Vision Microscope (OVM) to
measure the size and shape of shadows cast by individual features on
a Device Under Test (DUT).  The Universal C-Mount Knife Edge/Camera
Rotation System meets this requirement, providing an adjustable
reference line with a known grey level for image analysis using a
camera with a C-Mount lens adapter.  This mechanism permits full
360-degree rotation, depth adjustment, fine degree rotation and lock,
and centering for the camera.

Disclosed is a device used to provide a reference line of a
known grey level with an adjustable angle, as required by a machine
vision analysis system used with a rotational OVM.

The assembly consists of a threaded support tube 1 with a lock
nut 2, an adjustable tube 3 with a spring steel knife edge 4, and a
1-inch filter holder with a lock ring 5 at the front.   The support
tube mounts to a standard C-Mount adapter on the camera 6.  The lock
nut holds the assembly in place and provides the coarse rotational
adjustment.  The adjustment tube is fitted into the suppor tube and
rotates 90 degrees for fine adjustment of the knife edge angle.  This
tube is locked into place with two set screws 7.  The knife edge is
fixed to the adjustment tube with front-to-back adjustment 8 and to
the rear o...
