Electronic Switching System Programmed Keypad Entry Correction Feature

      Disclosed is a technical method for enhancing Electronic
Switching System (ESS) telephone office devices equipped with a
numeric keypad for sequential input of digits with a feature for
facilitating the correction of keypad entry errors.

      With a "correction feature" on this type of office equipment,
re-entering the whole sequence of digits is unnecessary.  Instead,
only two steps are necessary to correct a miss-typed number sequence.
First, the "correction feature" is invoked for as many simultaneous
digits needing correction.  Second, the correct keypad entry is made.

      The implementation of this feature on telephone keypads would
involve the enhancement of the programming of an ESS to recognize a
dial sequence, for example STAR (*) followed by a STAR (*), as the
invocation of the "correction feature".
