Abstract

Disclosed is a "T-connector" that, when attached to the back of a token-ring card, allows multiple stations to be daisy-chained into a small cost-effective token-ring LAN. In a daisy-chained token-ring, the main ring cable is directly attached between each station; there is no lobe cable attached to a concentrator or fan-out connector. The disclosed T-connector thus allows users to build a small token-ring LAN without a wiring closet.

T-Connector for Token-Ring

Disclosed is a "T-connector" that, when attached to the back of
a token-ring card, allows multiple stations to be daisy-chained into
a small cost-effective token-ring LAN.  In a daisy-chained
token-ring, the main ring cable is directly attached between each
station; there is no lobe cable attached to a concentrator or fan-out
connector.  The disclosed T-connector thus allows users to build a
small token-ring LAN without a wiring closet.

The functions of the T-connector are:

o   Provide a wrap path for the token-ring card on bring-up.

o   Provide relay insertion into the token-ring when the attached
token-ring card activates its insertion voltage.  It will
indicate insertion by the activation of a LED indicator.

Fig. 1 shows a five-station daisy-chained token ring LAN using
the disclosed T-connector.

Fig. 2 shows the internal circuitry of the T-connector.  The
isolation circuit is implemented with capacitors C1 through C4.  The
T-connector circuitry fits into an enclosure approximately 3.0 inches
by 1.5 inches by 0.9 inches.
