Process and Apparatus for Combining Test Functions for Disk Media
Testing

Disclosed is a method for combining test functions such as
glide or burnish and magnetic heads on a single actuator.

The Figure shows an arm that can hold a sweeping glide and the
magnetic style head on the same mount surface.  Thus, standard
suspension loads and angles can be used.

The rotating real estate first encounters the sweep head which
is flying skewed in the shown position.  Thus, the glide head is
closer to the disk than the magnetic head, providing not only the
glide function but a skewed head burnish to assure the
contamination/asperities are hit and carried away prior to hitting
the magnetic head.  The area swept immediately goes under the
magnetic head next.
