User Interface Pop-up Duration by Contained Content

Provided is a pop-up creation programming interface which
allows a user interface developer to create a pop-up dynamically
sized according to its content and surfaced on a desktop without
interrupting a user for a time duration directly related to the
amount of information displayed.

There are times when it is desirable to present a pop-up window
to a user and not force the user to interface to the object in order
to continue.  For example, a user interface reminder may be surfaced
to a user's desktop only to remain for a few seconds and then
disappear.  Should the user not intervene to the underlying
application which presents such a reminder, it may appear again
later, on a configured basis.  This type of pop-up is a less annoying
announcement that an asynchronous process has a notification.  Most
systems will surface a pop-up and require the user to intervene,
thereby denoting acknowledgement of the notification.  This often
annoys a user because the focus has left the application currently
being used and the user must remove the pop-up in order to continue.
In fact, the pop-up may appear on top of the window with focus which
forces the user to remove the pop-up even to view the window of
interest.  An application developer is capable of implementing a time
delayed pop-up.  A method is needed for preventing the application
developer from figuring out how long to keep the pop-up on the
desktop...
