Flexible Power Connection for Array Applications

      Disclosed is a flexible power connection used to connect two
opposing planar parallel circuit arrays.  A helical formed connection
is used which can be tailored to achieve the required in-plane and
out-of-plane compliancy while providing the necessary circuit density
and current carrying capacity.

      Unique advantages of the disclosed invention over prior art
include:  1) providing a densely populated connection method between
parallel planar circuits of different temperature characteristics; 2)
versatility in the method used to make said connections while
accommodating variat- ions in connection length and 3) optimization
of mechanical and electrical parameters to insure adequate compliancy
and sufficient current carrying capability.

      The Figure shows a flexible power connection 1 providing an
electrical path between circuit pads (or alternately pins) 2 on a
circuitized electronic subassembly 3 and pads on a planar power
structure 5.  Connection of the flexible power connection 1 to its
mating pads or pins 2 and 4 at each end is made as required via
soldering the hollow flexible power connection cylinder 1 to posts,
soldering the flat end of the cylinder 1 to flat pads or by using a
surface contact separable connection.  Multiple flexible power
