Mouse-Mounted Microphone for Speech Input to Computers

The essence of the invention is the placement of a microphone
in the mouse of a computer system [*].

The following refinements of this invention are disclosed:

1.  The microphone can be on the bottom of the mouse

2.  There can be a microphone switch on the mouse

3.  This switch can be of the "hold-while-operating" type to make the
interface modeless and, hence, easier to use

4.  This switch can be designed to automatically turn the microphone
on when the mouse is picked up, and to automatically turn the
microphone off when the mouse is put down

The following variations of this invention are disclosed:

1.  For a tethered mouse, the tether can carry the microphone signal

2.  For a wireless mouse, the signal can be transmitted to the
computer by means of wireless transmission

3.  For a wireless mouse using electromagnetic transmission, the
user's body can be used as a transmitting antenna, establishing a
connection by means of a conducting area on the mouse

4.  If the user's body is used as a transmitting antenna, and the
microphone switch is of the "hold-while-operating" type, then the
microphone switch can be used as the conducting area.
