Polish Pad Application Tool

A tool for simultaneous alignment and application of polishing
pads is disclosed.  The tool aligns the asymmetrically located holes
in the pad with those in the plate, and rolls the pressure sensitive
adhesive backed pad onto the plate.

The tool is basically a "rolling pin" design with the added
feature of retractable alignment pins.  A tube was used as the barrel
of the rolling pin.  At each end of the tube a handle was mounted
which rotates freely, allowing the barrel to roll across the pad
while the handle remains stationary.  Then inside of the handles, a
mechanism was designed which, when activated by pushing in or pulling
out a knob, would extend or retract an alignment pin.  These pins
extend in a direction that is perpendicular to the axis of rotation
of the tube.  To ensure proper orientation of the pad with the plate,
these pins were made in different diameters to match the holes in the
plate that receive the pins.
