Disclosed is a method that displays an arrow in a small motion video area in order to use the area as a pointer. The area is called a motion video telepointer. The method is used in a desktop conferencing system that displays a motion video from a remote user. The motion video telepointer indicates a point in a shared window to remote users.

Motion Video Telepointer

      Disclosed is a method that displays an arrow in a small motion
video area in order to use the area as a pointer.  The area is called
a motion video telepointer.  The method is used in a desktop
conferencing system that displays a motion video from a remote user.
The motion video telepointer indicates a point in a shared window to
remote users.

      The method uses a video overlay adapter.  The method draws a
rectangle of an overlay color and draws an arrow on it as shown in
Fig. 1.  The method gives the motion video signal sent from a remote
user into the video overlay adapter.  The adapter overlays the motion
video onto the rectangle.  The method moves the rectangle to the
point whose coordinates are sent from a remote user.  As a result, a
user can see a pointer of a remote user and his or her face in one
rectangle.  Thus, a user can easily correspond a remote user to his
or her pointer.

      In order to prevent the rectangle from hiding the contents of a
shared window, the method takes the following procedure shown in Fig.
2.  The method first draws the rectangle.  Then, it draws the
contents of a shared window.  Finally, it draws an arrow.

      It is also possible to show a still image in a rectangle using
the method.  In addition, the method can draw an arrow in another
corner of the rectangle.
