AC Adapter Having Three Modes of Functions

      Disclosed is a circuit for AC-DC adapter with a battery quick
charger.  This AC-DC adapter can supply power in two modes among the
following three modes simultaneously by using two power supply
circuits.

1.  DC power for System Unit

2.  DC power to charge the battery attached to System unit

3.  DC power to charge the battery attached to AC-DC adapter

      This AC-DC adapter has only two power supply circuits.
Therefore, its amount of parts, size and power consumption could be
smaller than those of the AC-DC adapter having three power supply
circuits.

      The Figure shows a block diagram of the AC-DC adapter explained
in this description.  This AC-DC adapter can supply power in three
modes by two power supply circuits.  They are CVCC (see *1) and CC
(see *2).

      When the system unit is working and when charging the battery
attached to the system unit is acceptable, a micro-processor in the
system unit requests AC-DC adapter to supply CC power to charge the
battery attached to the system unit by driving CCON# to low.  When
CCON# is low, the CC power supply circuit can't supply power to
charge the battery attached to the AC-DC adapter.

The Table shows the functions of the AC-DC adapter under each load
condition.
