Abstract

Disclosed is a method for determining which bus masters are active on the Micro Channel* when an error condition occurs in an environment using Subsystem Control Blocks (SCB's) (to provide control information for SCB's are used to provide control information sending data to or from the bus masters.)

Identification of Failing Bus Master

Disclosed is a method for determining which bus masters are
active on the Micro Channel* when an error condition occurs in an
environment using Subsystem Control Blocks (SCB's) (to provide
control information for SCB's are used to provide control information
sending data to or from the bus masters.)

According to this method, when a system master starts a bus
master, the system master contacts a scheduler providing a reference
number associated with a time stamp and description.  When the system
master receives a response from the bus master, the scheduler is
again contacted to indicate completion.

Similarly, when a first bus master starts a second bus master,
the first bus master contacts the scheduler to obtain a reference
number associated with a time stamp and description.  When the first
bus master receives a response from the second bus master, the
scheduler is again contacted to indicate completion.

The scheduler maintains the resulting information concerning
which bus masters are operational in a circular buffer large enough
to determine which transfers were occurring at the time of an error
in a transfer.
