Spindle Motor Flex Alignment

      A spindle motor design that self-aligns the disk pack during
installation into a base casting is disclosed.

      A nonrotating feature shown on the bottom of this embodiment
(Figs. 1 and 2) provides a means to align the motor's flex cable with
the base casting.  A protruding rib on the outer diameter of the
nonrotating plate is located in such a way as to provide flex cable
positioning via a slot in the rib between positions 2 and 3.  The rib
at locations 3 and 4 creates the imaginary line 5 which serves as the
feature that aligns with the base casting.  The mating of the plate's
flat section at line 5 with a corresponding flat section (Fig. 3,
Position 1) of the casting (Fig. 3, Position 2) prevents rotation of
the motor once engaged.
