Cable Overmold Fixture with Universal Cable Exits

A method to use one fixture for plastic cable overmolds with
different cable exits is disclosed.  The fixture uses inserts in the
cable exit area.

Typically, expensive overmolding fixtures are required to mold
plastic around the connectors on the ends of an external cable.
Depending on the application, different cable exits may be needed as
shown in the Figure.

Instead of a unique fixture for each particular cable exit, low
cost inserts can be designed for each type of cable exit.  Thus, one
fixture and several inserts are all that is needed to accomodate a
family of cables with the same connectors, but different cable exits.

Although only 1 or 2 of the cable exits may be needed, the
fixture blueprint should include details of ALL known cable exits so
the toolmaker can build the fixture allowing for the different
inserts that may be needed in the future.
