Method to Improve Slide Latch Assemblies on Molded Cables

An improved method for attaching a slide latch to a "D"
sub-miniature connector is disclosed.  A connector with a swaged
(riveted) clinch nut is used to retain the slide latch.

Using a connector with riveted clinch nuts allows the slide
latch shoulder screws to be screwed into the connector without
washers and nuts on the back side.  The clinch nut has a thread
forming nylon insert to retain the shoulder screw (Figure).

The slide latch, shoulder screws, and connector with clinch
nuts are all available as off-the-shelf products from connector
suppliers.
