Abstract

In a magnetic tape recording device, where a pantacam threading pin engages the leader block during threading operation. The leader block tends to fall off under some circumstances such as low or no tension, abnormal angular inclination of the leader block with respect to the threading pin, etc. This situation is further aggravated by automated tape library operation, where more frequent load/unload threading operation takes place and increase the chances that a leader block will fall off.

Adjustable Tape Threading Pin Restraining Device

      In a magnetic tape recording device, where a pantacam threading
pin engages the leader block during threading operation.  The leader
block tends to fall off under some circumstances such as low or no
tension, abnormal angular inclination of the leader block with
respect to the threading pin, etc.  This situation is further
aggravated by automated tape library operation, where more frequent
load/unload threading operation takes place and increase the chances
that a leader block will fall off.

      This invention is mainly aiming at restraining the leader block
from falling off the threading under some abnormal conditions that
might occur.  The design include a 1.2mm circular pin inserted into
the threading pin in a position such that:

1.  Vertically just above and clear the leader block when in the
    threading position.

2.  The angular position of the pin is in the middle of the leader
    block opening when the leader block starts to engage the pin.  In
    other words, the pin will clear the leader block when the
    cartridge is being lowered to engage the pin.

      The length of the pin is 2.0mm, which is necessary to assure
the maximum leader blcok surface engagement.  This pin will be known
as the restraining pin to be distinguished from the threading pin.
