Language Selection Palette

      Disclosed is a process using a language selection palette in a
graphical user interface, such as OS/2*, to select the national
language in which an application program operates.

      Fig. 1 shows a computer screen at the start of the language
selection process.  The application is open within a window 10, while
the System Folder 12 is visible on a portion of the screen, such as a
"desktop," outside window 10 [*].

      Fig. 2 shows various objects displayed when the System Folder
12 of Fig.  1 is selected.  Each selection may be made, for example,
using standard techniques with a mouse.  One of these objects is the
System Setup object 14 [*].

      Fig. 3 shows objects displayed when System Setup object 14 of
Fig. 2 is selected.  These objects can be used to customize the
system [*].  One of these setup objects is Language Palette folder
16.

      Fig. 4 shows the Language Palette 18, which is displayed when
Language Palette folder 16 of Fig. 3 is selected.  The objects shown
in Figs. 2-4 are displayed on the screen together with the
application in window 10.  The Language Palette 18 includes several
language icons 20.  Selecting one of the language icons, dragging the
selected icon to the application in window 10, and dropping the icon
on this application causes the application to begin operation in the
national language depicted on the icon, if the application supports
