Abstract

Described is a hardware implementation to provide complete shock protection for a standard+ Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) monitor case that would otherwise be subjected to forces in excess of 1000 g's in a 4 ft. drop. +Standard, in this case, is a display face exceeding 40 sq. in. and unmodified for shock resistance (rated to withstand approx. 50 g's). It also doubles in function as a water/chemical resistant seal.

Shock-Absorbing Liquid Crystal Display Mount/Seal Case

      Described is a hardware implementation to provide complete
shock protection for a standard+ Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) monitor
case that would otherwise be subjected to forces in excess of 1000
g's in a 4 ft.  drop.  +Standard, in this case, is a display face
exceeding 40 sq.  in.  and unmodified for shock resistance (rated to
withstand approx.  50 g's).  It also doubles in function as a
water/chemical resistant seal.

      The Figure shows an isometric view of shock absorbing LCD
mount/seal case.  The case is made of molded 45 durometer neoprene
rubber shock resistance and to withstand chemicals and water.
Sidewalls 10 envelope the perimeter of the display for ease of
assembly and for protection in side drops.

      Continuous ribs 11 bear against the face of the display and
absorbs most of the energy impact in flat drops.  Ribs 11 are located
well in- board of the display edges so as to direct shock waves
toward the center of the display where it is less likely to cause a
fracture.

      Gussets 12 provide stabilization of ribs 11 and prevent lateral
collapse during impacts.
