Motion in Parallel with Drive Unload"

      The picker controller mechanism is allowed to issue a direct
spin down signal to the drive before positioning itself in front of
the drive for a cartridge unload operation.

      The main interface signal lines between an optical drive and a
picker controller for an optical library generally consist of the
following lines:

      EJECT line, BUSY line, DRIVE PRESENCE line, CARTRIDGE PRESENCE
line, and GROUND lines.

      The EJECT line when asserted signals the drive for a cartridge
unload operation.  The BUSY line when asserted informs the library
controller that the drive is busy.  The DRIVE PRESENCE line informs
the library controller that a drive exists in this location/position.
The CARTRIDGE PRESENCE line informs the drive that a cartridge is
ready for a loading operation.  The GROUND lines are for noise
immunity.

      The cartridge unload operation means that the drive has to
complete the spindown first then the cartridge can be ejected.  In
order to overlap the spindown operation of the drive with the picker
movement two different implementation schemes are described as
follows:

1.  Either a new signal interface line between the drive and the
    picker controller "SPINDOWN" line had to be added to the drive
    and the picker, or

2.  a 2 bit shift register latch and a comparator had to be added to
    the drive, the picker controller will use the "EJECT" line for
    spinning down the cartridge by pulsing once and ejecting the
    cartridge by pulsing twice.
