Abstract

A protocol conversion method is disclosed that defines the mapping from a non-alarm CMIP event report to an SNA major vector X'0003' event major vector. This conversion enables an SNA/Management Services based application to receive unsolicited messages from OSI CMIP-based environment.

CMIP Event Report to SNA Major Vector X'0003' Conversion

A protocol conversion method is disclosed that defines the
mapping from a non-alarm CMIP event report to an SNA major vector
X'0003' event major vector.  This conversion enables an
SNA/Management Services based application to receive unsolicited
messages from OSI CMIP-based environment.

The protocol conversion is performed by a protocol converter.
The protocol converter performs a manager role in the OSI CMIP-based
environment while performing as an entry point in Alert Category in
the SNA management Service environment.  As a CMIP manager, the
protocol converter has to create CMIP event forwarding discriminator
or its equivalent in the agent systems.  As an entry point in the
alert category in SNA Management service environment, the protocol
converter has to establish a CP-CP session with its Alert focal
point.

A CMIP event report may arrive at the protocol converter in
confirmed or non-confirmed mode.  If it is in confirmed mode, a
positive event report response should be sent back to the sender.
The protocol converter then converts the event report to an event
major vector and sends the event major vector to the alert focal
point.

The protocol converter creates the following subvectors in an event
major vector:

1.  Hierarchy Resource List (X'05')

2.  Product Set ID (X'10')

3.  CMIP Event Type (X'81')

4.  CMIP Management Object Class (X'82)

5.  A data field containing truncat...
