Simple Control of Outline Printing Thermal Printer

Disclosed is a control method for outline printing on thermal
paper which utilize the colored characteristics of the thermal paper
by a temperature.

This method can print the outline character on the thermal
paper without the additional outline character font or the
complicated control algorithm.

A typical characteristic of the thermal paper is shown in Fig.
1, and it is colored in a temperature width and not colored in
exceeding its temperature width.

Therefore, when printing the normal character font, the thermal
head is heated in the colored temperature range as shown in Fig. 2.
In case of printing the outline character font, it can be done only
by heating the thermal head over the colored temperature range as
shown in Fig. 3.

The method of the realization is considered in the following
two cases:

1.  Vary the supply voltage of the thermal head.

2.  Vary the energized time of the thermal head.

However, the energized time is normally controlled to keep the
thermal head temperature for the print quality.  Consequently the
control of the supply voltage is the easiest way.  The example of the
electrical diagram is shown in Fig. 4.
