Architecture for Systems Management Icon Design

      Disclosed is the general structure for a standard user
interface icon to be used in a family of graphical user interface
applications for system management tasks.

      In a graphical user interface for a system management family of
applications, icons are used to represent system management objects,
actions, display controls, and views.  The general structure for a
standard user interface icon is as follows:  Icon image rules:

1.  Three dimensional look

2.  38x38, with a 32x32 in the 38x38 space

3.  Limited use of color

4.  Slight down angle with single vanishing point

5.  Concrete representations, not symbols.

Standard set of icon classes:

1.  Type icons--38x38, consistent with the icons used as objects.

2.  Template Icons--Template icons are a combination of an object
    icon placed upon the template icon.  The template icon is 40X50
    and is dithered yellow.  A 32X32 icon is shown within this space.

3.  Action icons--represent operations that can be accomplished on
    objects.  These actions are represented as concretetely as
    possible.  For example, On and Off are represented as a light
    bulb turned on and a light bulb turned off.

4.  Object icons--represent a labeled object in the workplace and are
    a visual representation of that object.

5.  View icons--represent the icon size and style of view.
