Isolation Bushing Installation Device

      A device has been developed that permits the installation of
delicate isolation bushings under a stereomicroscope without
isolation bushing deformation.  This device is illustrated in the
Figure.

      Isolation bushing 1 is positioned over pin to be isolated 2
from plated through hold 3 of printed wiring board 4.  Isolation
bushing 1 is held on installation tool 5 by press fit to sliding pin
6.  Sliding pin 6 is retained by spring 7.  The isolation bushing 1
is seated by downward pressure of the installation tool 5.  Sliding
pin 6 supports the wall of the isolation bushing 1 during insertion.
After insertion, sliding pin 6 is positioned on the top side of pin
retaining head 8.  Pin retaining head support arm 9 is moved to
second position axis 10 by rotating thumbwheel 11 which drives an
internal drive mechanism which rotates pin retaining head support arm
9 around pivot 12.  The installation tool 5 is rotated 180 degrees
around its longitudinal centerline 13, which resets the entire
installation tool 5 to pick-up the next isolation bushing for the
next insertion.
