Isotropic Polyimide Thin Films

Disclosed is a polyimide film with uniform dielectric
properties for use in electronic packaging.

Polyimides with rigid rod like backbone form films with marked
refractive and dielectric anisotropies.  This is, at times, a problem
if an increased dielectric constant in the direction between two
signal lines leads to increased cross talk between adjacent lines.
We have shown that a polyimide morphological composite formed from
mixtures of polyamic acid and polyamic acid ester precursors is much
more isotropic than the polyimide formed from either polyamic acid or
polyamic acid ester precursor by themselves.

The polyimide is morphologically different, but chemically
identical to the material in use presently.
