Detection of MR Signals by Means of the Phase-Synchronized Method

      Disclosed is a device for improving the detection of MR signals
by using phase--synchronized signal detection with modulation of the
MR sensor.

      This system is shown in Fig. 1.  The synchronized signal
emitted by a modulation oscillator modulates a reading signal on the
MR sensor.  The modulated signal is the differential wave form of the
objective signal, and is obtained by using phase--synchronized signal
detection in a lock-in amplifier.

      Alternative modulation methods are shown in Figs. 2, 3, and 4.
In Fig. 2, the magnetic field characteristics of the MR sensor are
modulated by executing pressure on it by means of a piezo electric
device.  In Fig. 3 modulation of the bias current of the MR sensor
causes modulation of the sensor's output characteristics.  In Fig. 4
the lattice distortion by an electric field on the MR sensor causes
modulation of the sensor's output characteristics.
