Book Alignment and Retention System for Multiple Scalable Coherent
Interface Cable Connectors

      A retention and alignment system for multiple cable connectors
and a method to provide EMC termination of cabling at the EMC
boundary.

      The connector (1) shown in Fig. 1 is inserted into the
stiffener (2) and slid vertically so that the stiffener and connector
holes are aligned.  The clip (3) is then snapped into the connector
(1) features such that the clip (3) pins go through the connector (1)
and stiffener (2) holes.  This aligns the connector (1) to the
stiffener (2) and prevents the connector (1) from sliding vertically
and disengaging from the stiffener (2).

      Fig. 2 shows assembly of the connector/stiffener (4) to the
book (5) The connector/stiffener (4) is mechanically supported in the
book through a series of tabs formed out of the book covers as shown
in Fig. 2.

      Fig. 3 shows installation of the book (6) into the cage (7).
The book (6) and cage (7) provide alignment of the
connector/stiffener (4) to the back plane guidance pins (8).  Once
the guidance pins (8) have engaged the holes in the
connector/stiffener (4), final alignment of the connectors is
accomplished via features on the connector bodies.

      The cable shown in Fig. 4 is constructed of multiple coaxial
cables (9) inside of an EMC overbraid (10).  The overbraid is split
around a termination plate (11).
