Multi-Function Digital Camera Information Method

      Described is a hardware implementation concept to record
direction and range along with a digital image.  This feature can be
incorporated into an integrated circuit card as an optional feature
for portable computers.

      Typically, pen based computers and other types of portable
computers are used with auxiliary equipment to support position
determination by way of a satellite Global Positioning Systems (GPSs)
and digital image capture.  The concept described herein provides a
method whereby additional information associated with digital images,
such as direction and range, can be recorded.  Information such
direction, distance range and focus can be sent to a portable
computer or notebook computer, from the multi-function digital camera
as directed by software.  The digital images are annotated with
specific distance and direction.  Building blocks currently available
are utilized in the concept, such as magnetic flux detectors and
ranging determination devices using energy reflections.

      The Figure shows a block diagram of the concept using industry
standard interfaces, such as the serial, parallel, PCMCIA or Small
Computer System Interface (SCSI).  Common logic functions may be
combined, such as Analog/Digital (A/D) conversions.  Voice
command/recognition logic can also be incorporated into this form
factor.
