Abstract

A double gripper picker having two independent gripping means and two cartridge chambers located side by side and separated by the picker flipping axis. The cartridge can slide from one chamber to the other during certain operations. This arrangement allows the picker to serve two adjacent cartridge cells without the transverse motion of the whole picker assembly.

Double Gripper Picker with Cartridge Sliding Motion

A double gripper picker having two independent gripping means
and two cartridge chambers located side by side and separated by the
picker flipping axis.  The cartridge can slide from one chamber to
the other during certain operations.  This arrangement allows the
picker to serve two adjacent cartridge cells without the transverse
motion of the whole picker assembly.

The design of this invention as illustrated in Fig. 1 comprises:

o   A picker shell 1, that can contain two cartridges 2 side by side
and allows the cartridge to slide from one chamber to the other
if there is only one cartridge in it.  The picker shell can
rotate about the Y axis aligned with its center line.

o   Two gripping means 3 to pick and insert cartridges.  These
grippers must release the cartridges when they completely enter
    the picker shell chambers.

This concept is applicable for single side pickers and pass through
pickers.

These are some representative operations:

o   No change of cell/cartridge flipping (Fig. 2):  Rotate 180
    degrees in counter clockwise direction.

o   Change of cell/cartridge flipping (Fig. 3):  Rotate 180 degrees
    in clockwise direction.

o   Change of cell/no cartridge flipping (Fig. 4):  Rotate 90 degrees
in counter clockwise direction and then 90 degrees in clockwise
    direction.
