Abstract

A common industrial iron plated soldering iron tip can be modified to exhibit the dual properties of being a soldering iron tip and being a permanent magnet. A permanent magnet is fastened to the barrel of the soldering iron such that it contacts the iron plating on the tip. The magnetic forces from permanent magnet are transferred through the iron plating to the object being soldered or unsoldered.

Magnetic Soldering Iron Tip

A common industrial iron plated soldering iron tip can be
modified to exhibit the dual properties of being a soldering iron tip
and being a permanent magnet.  A permanent magnet is fastened to the
barrel of the soldering iron such that it contacts the iron plating
on the tip.  The magnetic forces from permanent magnet are
transferred through the iron plating to the object being soldered or
unsoldered.

This disclosure can be utilized to eliminate the requirement
for a "third hand" in manufacturing soldering or unsoldering
operations on components that are affected by magnetic forces.
