Abstract

Disclosed is a Coin Diameter Detector which has two optical sensor located in a coin feed pass for a Coin Distinction System. The Coin Diameter Detector compensates a coin scattering position in the feed pass utilizing a coin pass time difference between two optical sensors without an acurate coin feed mechanism along a reference edge line.

Coin Diameter Detector

      Disclosed is a Coin Diameter Detector which has two optical
sensor located in a coin feed pass for a Coin Distinction System.
The Coin Diameter Detector compensates a coin scattering position in
the feed pass utilizing a coin pass time difference between two
optical sensors without an acurate coin feed mechanism along a
reference edge line.

      Fig. 1 shows the example of this method.  The coin feeding
direction is from right to left, or from left to right in Fig. 1.
Two optical sensors (S1)(S2) which are composed of luminescence
device and optical detector device respectively, such as light
emitting diode and photo transistor, are located in the coin feed
pass.

      Fig. 2 shows the circuit example of this method.  When a coin
is fed in the coin feed pass, optical sensor (S1)(S2) detects the
coin and output signal of photo transistors (PTR) are changed during
the coin passing period under each sensor.  Timer (TM1) counts T1
seconds and T2 seconds for coin passing period under sensor (S1) and
(S2) respectively.  Microprocessor (MC1) calculates the coin diameter
utilizing T1 seconds and T2 seconds.  The coin feeding speed (V) and
the length between S1 and S2 (S) are memorized in the memory (MM1).

      This method allows that an accurate coin diameter measurement
without an accurate coin feed mechanism along the reference edge of
coin feed pass.
