Abstract

Disclosed is a spin button window control for manipulating multi-field formats by defining value ranges for each of the component fields, by supporting the selection of individual fields, and by modifying field values through direct editing or by spinning up or down within a selected field. If no field is selected, spinning begins from the last (least significant) field, being carried to the adjacent fields. These functions are implemented within a single spin control, rather than within a master/slave configuration using multiple control windows. When direct editing is used, a shorthand notation for the delimited values is accepted and expanded by the control. The field ranges, delimiters, and number of fields are configurable.

Spinning Multiple Delimited Data Fields in a Single Control

Disclosed is a spin button window control for manipulating
multi-field formats by defining value ranges for each of the
component fields, by supporting the selection of individual fields,
and by modifying field values through direct editing or by spinning
up or down within a selected field.  If no field is selected,
spinning begins from the last (least significant) field, being
carried to the adjacent fields.  These functions are implemented
within a single spin control, rather than within a master/slave
configuration using multiple control windows.  When direct editing is
used, a shorthand notation for the delimited values is accepted and
expanded by the control.  The field ranges, delimiters, and number of
fields are configurable.

A standard spin button consists of an entry field with two
stacked pushbuttons directly adjacent to the right.  Numeric values,
or an array of text strings, are incremented, or spun, up or down, by
pushing the upper or lower button, respectively.

The spinning of multiple delimited data fields is implemented
by adding additional features to a standard spin button type of
control.  As shown in the Figure, the control consists of an entry
field and two adjacently stacked pushbuttons to the right thereof.
The entry field contains the multiple-field delimited value of the
control.  This type of control may be implemented by creating a
custom control using the standard spin button control as a client.
