Front Grounding Sheet Metal Blank

A 1/3 high sheet metal dummy book is disclosed.  The dummy book
provides front-end electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) shielding and
grounding to control system emissions to FCC class B levels.  It is a
single piece of sheet metal which is simple and inexpensive to
manufacture.

Fig. 1 shows the dummy book or blank.  It consists of a
U-shaped piece of sheet metal 1 with flanges bent up at both ends 2.
In addition, there are three stops 3 per side and two lever arms 4
that serve as latching mechanisms.  The levers are made in such a way
that they not only provide a gripping surface 5 but use there own
cut-out profile as stops to prevent yielding when being stressed.  A
lanced form 6 on each lever arm provides the latching surface.

Fig. 2 shows the installation process.  First, the blank is
pushed into the cage at a slight angle 1 so that the lower most tab 2
on the blank fits inside of a vertical tab 3 on the cage.  The blank
is then rotated 4 until the upper most tab 5 makes contact with the
front wall of the cage 6.  At this point, the lanced forms snap into
holes on the cage 7, locking the blank into place.

Fig. 3 shows a blank installed into a cage.  The bottom most
tab 1 and the middle tab 2 on the blank make contact with two
opposing walls on the cage.  These contact points prevent the cage
from rotating and disengaging once installed.  The lowest tab also
rests on a horizontal wall...
