Wrist Rest Pivotally Mounted on Keyboard

Described is a wrist rest, pivotally attached at each front
corner of a keyboard, forming an integral part of the keyboard
movable between a storage position under keyboard and an operating
position extending outward from the front edge of the keyboard.

Fig. 1 is an isometric view of a keyboard 10 with the wrist
rest 12, mounted by pivots 14, in the storage position, and Fig. 2 is
a similar isometric view with wrist rest 12 in the operating
position.  Hinge tabs 15 of the wrist rest may extend within
corresponding indentions of the keyboard.

The underside of the wrist rest 12 may be shaped to conform to
the underside of the keyboard shell in the storage position of Fig.
1, and edge 16 of wrist rest 12, which is adjacent to the keyboard in
the operating position of Fig. 2, is relieved to provide clearance
for the front portion 18 of the keyboard 10.  The resulting gap 20
does not affect the function of wrist rest 12, since the wrist and
palm of the user are supported by farther forward portions of the
rest surface 22.  The width of wrist rest 12 in the direction of
arrow 24 is determined by the height and slope of a specific keyboard
10, and the length of the wrist rest perpendicular to arrow 24 is
determined by the corresponding length of keyboard 10.  The underside
of front edge 26 of the wrist rest, which rests on the work surface
of a table or desk, may be tapered to minimize any discontinuity
