Adapter Developer Diskette with Selective File Copying Feature

      Disclosed is a method for providing a selective file copying
capability on the Adapter Developer Diskette by means of the Uniform
Install Utility.

      The Programmable Option Select (POS) feature is available on
each IBM Personal System/2*.  Each such system is shipped with a
Reference Diskette including a Set Configuration program to configure
the system by identifying the resources which are available and by
determining how these resources can efficiently coexist.  Since a
user with a relatively old system, purchasing a new option, may need
enhancements to the Set Configuration Program and System
Configuration files in his system before the new option can be
properly installed, a copy of the newest Set Configuration program
and associated files is supplied on a diskette with new adapters.
For adapters supplied by independent option vendors, IBM  supplies
these programs on an Adapter Developer Diskette.

      These files can be copied by the user from the diskette
supplied with the adapter onto the Reference Diskette of his system,
using the Copy Option Utility of the Reference Diskette.  While this
method has worked well in many cases, some users have insufficient
space on their Reference Diskettes for this purpose.

      This problem is overcome through use of the Uniform Install
Utility supplied on the Adapter Developer Diskette.  This utility is
an installation command interpreter which can be customized through
an input provided by "tags" contained within an Installation Data
Profile, a file identified by an .IDP extension.  There is one .IDP
file for each Reference Diskette and System Partition supported.  The
Adapter Developer Diskette is a DOS 5.0 1.44KB-formatted diskette,
containing the Set Configuration Program, associated configuration
files needed for each system, and the Uniform Install Utility Program
