Architecture for a General Switch User Dialog

Disclosed is the general structure for a standard interface
dialog to be used in a family of graphical user interface
applications for systems management tasks.  This structure allows the
user easy access into a different authority level of the interface
when the right password is entered into the system.

When a user starts a task without being in the proper authority
mode, it is often necessary for the user to interrupt or cancel the
current task, and invoke the proper authority before starting the
task again.  The disclosed structure allows the user to change
authority levels with minimal disruption to the task.  In order to do
this, the user accesses the Switch User dialog by pressing the Switch
User button on the primary window.  This button is always visible on
the screen if the user is not in high authority mode.  Once the
button is depressed, the Switch to root User dialog appears.  This
dialog instructs the user to "Enter root's password to operate as the
root user."  The user is to type the root password in an input window
labeled "Password".  The user can either type the password, and
select the OK button, or select the Cancel button.  This closes the
window and allows the user to proceed with the task.

The architecture is unique in that it provides the following:
  1.  A common way to access root privilege for the AIX* systems
      management graphical interfaces; and
  2.  A co...
