Compound Document Client/Server Message Part Handler

A method is described to supply a Client/Server Message part
for compound document inclusion.  The proposed part will enable a
form of client/server connection to a line service.

The Client/Server Message Part is used to display a string of
information requested from a server.  The part is simply a client
which establishes a connection to a server.  Periodically, the
Message Part asks the server for string data to update.  The part
automatically handles the scrolling of text.  If a connection cannot
be established, the part displays a default string of "connect not
available".  In the Figure, a letter is being constructed and, at the
same time, the user is monitoring the New York Stock Exchange.  Since
the data is transent, the Message Part is not included when the
document is printed.  At the users option, a Message Part can be
dragged into a document to monitor outside information, thereby
promoting the document centric interface.

The following implementation is envisioned.  The part
establishes a thread for a TCP/IP connection to a server.  In this
thread, the part requests data from the server periodically.  The
main process of execution provides the visual scrolling of text.
