Abstract

A diagnostic RJ-45 wrap assembly for verification of hardware at the card/cable interface connection is disclosed. The wrap assembly can be used for Token Ring (IEEE 802.5) and Ethernet (IEEE 802.3) interfaces, providing two wrap solutions in one package.

Diagnostic RJ-45 Wrap Connector for IEEE 802.3 and IEEE 802.5 Interfaces

A diagnostic RJ-45 wrap assembly for verification of hardware
at the card/cable interface connection is disclosed.  The wrap
assembly can be used for Token Ring (IEEE 802.5) and Ethernet (IEEE
802.3) interfaces, providing two wrap solutions in one package.

The wrap assembly consists of the industry standard RJ-45 phone
plug (1); two 4.7 kohm, one-eighth watt resistors, R1 and R2 (2); and
two 0.47 microfarad, 50 volt ceramic capacitors, C1 and C2 (3).

The components (2) and (3) are soldered to jumper wires (4).
Shrink tubing is applied to form an insulated jumper assembly (5).
The jumper assembly (5) is terminated to the transmit and receive
signal pins of the RJ-45 plug (1), per the connection diagram, to
simulate an active area network (Fig. 1).

The RJ-45 plug (1), and the jumper assembly (5) are encased in
a hot melt or PVC mold (6) for protection and safe handling (Fig. 2).
