Double-Byte Outline Font Support for Advanced Function Printer Viewers
and Printers

      This invention presents a technique to print and view Advanced
Function Printer (APF) files containing double-byte outline fonts
using a font rasterizer.

      The text fields in a MODCA file are parsed to detect the
required font names, formatting rules and the text itself.  A
rasterizer is invoked with the font invocations and the text to be
imaged.  Ximager with a separate double-byte font rasterizer could be
used as the rasterizer, as can any other rasterizer provided a parser
is included to parse the referenced font files.  All the text
placement controls also handled by the rasterizer to produce an image
with formatted text.  The image is wrapped in IOCA orders and
inserted back into the datastream in place of the original textual
records leaving only the information required for the rendition of
the image on the page.  Using compressed IOCA greatly reduces the
amount of image data in the datastream.
