Disclosed is the technology to enable APA printing and display for Double Byte Character Set (DBCS) and 3270 transaction-based application output by converting selected presentation fields to IM image objects. This technology could also be used to create compressed IOCA or GOCA graphics objects. Refer to the Figure for an overview of the disclosure.

All Points Addressable Print and Display Enabling Technology for
Double Byte Character Set/3270 Transaction-Based Presentations

      Disclosed is the technology to enable APA printing and display
for Double Byte Character Set (DBCS) and 3270 transaction-based
application output by converting selected presentation fields to IM
image objects.  This technology could also be used to create
compressed IOCA or GOCA graphics objects.  Refer to the Figure for an
overview of the disclosure.

The technology consists of the following components:
  1.  Data Stream Converter (Interpreter) - It converts:
      a.  DBCS line data to Advanced Function Printing (AFP) line
data
           (with IM image objects):  DBCS codes are replaced with
           ICP/IRD (IM Image Cell Position/IM Image Raster Data)
           structured fields.
      b.  DBCS line data to AFP page data (composed page with IM
image
           objects): DBCS codes are replaced with ICP/IRD structured
           fields, and the output is formatted into composed page to
           remove the dependency on Page Definition.
      c.  AFP page data to AFP page data (with IM image objects):
DBCS
           escape sequences in CTX/PTX (Composed Text
Data/Presentation
           Text Data) are removed and replaced with IM image objects.
  2.  Font Driver - A callable Application Programming Interface
