Abstract

Disclosed is a new connection pattern method between the driver IC and a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). It enables to control the "stretch" out which is occurred at the edges of the driver electrode on tape carrier after thermal bonding between tape carrier package of driver IC (TCP) and LCD. Fig. 1 shows a relation between TCP and LCD.

      Disclosed is a new connection pattern method between the driver
IC and a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD).  It enables to control the
"stretch" out which is occurred at the edges of the driver electrode
on tape carrier after thermal bonding between tape carrier package of
driver IC (TCP) and LCD.  Fig. 1 shows a relation between TCP and
LCD.

      The connection pattern has some dummy patterns which is not
important electrically.  Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 show the measuring pattern
of "stretch" out which is an application of the caliper's theory.

      For example, the line pitch of electrodes on the glass is 95
micron.  The line width is 45 micron.  The line space is 50 micron.
The line pitch of TCP electrodes is 100 micron.  The line width is 50
micron.  The line space is 50 micron.  It is designed that both
patterns are matched at line of A in Fig. 3.  But in this case, both
pattern are matched the part of B in Fig. 3.

      There are three reasons occur to mismatch between both
electrodes.  One is an accumulation tolerance of TCP electrodes,
another is "stretch" out, and the other is misalignment between both
electrodes.  The misalignment is measured when 2 caliper patterns in
the connection pattern are designed two edges so the "stretch" out
including the accumulation tolerance is easily measured.
