Flexible Interface Cable for Portable PC

This article describes an interface cable using Flexible
Printed Circuit (FPC) for Portable PC.

The Figure shows the example of the subject cable.  Portable PC
is composed of two units, one (1) is able to rotate 180º  against
another unit (2), on a fixed axis.  Both units are connected with
each other by the FPC (4) via the ends (3) of FPC (4).  FPC (4) has a
crank shape where the middle portion is longer along the fixed axis
than both the edge portions.  The middle portion of FPC (4) locates
along on the axis, without any fixing.  When a unit of PC rotates
180º against another unit, the middle portion of FPC can twist
180º (from +90º to -90º or vice versa) with very
little mechanical stress.

The subject internal interface cable has a simple shape and
durable against the mechanical stress in opening/closing the units of
the PC.  This invention is applicable for other interface cable
assembled in rotating mechanism.
