Libraries

      An Input/Output (I/O) station for importing and exporting
cartridges in and out a storage library has a cylindrical drum shape
with horizontal rotational axis, the cartridges are horizontally or
vertically stacked within the drum.

The I/O station design of this invention, as illustrated in Figs. 1
and 2, comprises:
  o  An I/O receptacle 3 with one or more receiving slots 4 to
receive
      the media magazine 5 that contains one or more media cartridges
      2, said receptacle 3 forms a cylindrical shape with its
      rotational axis OO' parallel to the X axis, the planes
containing
      the receiving slots 4 are parallel to the rotational axis OO',
  o  The upper lip 6 and the lower lip 7 to prevent the operator from
      reaching the moving mechanism inside the library,
  o  A frame 8 to support the whole I/O assembly.

OPERATION -
  o  During normal operation, the receptacle 3 is angularly
positioned
      so that the receiving slot openings face the picker 9 and the
      receiving slots 4 are parallel to the storage slots 1, as
      illustrated in Fig. 3a.
  o  To import and export cartridges, the receptacle 3 is rotated in
      clockwise direction until the receiving slot openings are
exposed
      to the front of the library where the operator can gain access
to
