Abstract

In a connection system on a compliant pin board, a dendritic interface allows for a separable contact system. Dendrites are applied to the tip of a compliant pin which provides the separable contact interface. Pins installed in a housing mechanism provide alignment and latching characteristics, along with providing a vehicle for inserting the compliant sections of the pins into the board. This results in a surface contact interface for a mating connector system utilizing a dendrite interface, transforming a pin-in-hole contact system into a repeatable surface mount contact system.
