Integrating Trouble Ticket and Configuration Management and Version
Control Defect Data

      A mechanism for bridging AIX* Trouble Ticket/6000* defect data
with Configuration Management and Version Control (CMVC) defect data
is disclosed.

      AIX Trouble Ticket/6000, Version 2.0, is an application that
works in conjunction with the AIX Netview/6000* network monitoring
and control system to help network administrators manage problems
that arise in a distributed network environment.  As events and
alarms are gathered by Netview, Trouble Ticket detects these events
and automatically records incident reports.  The network
administrator can then create trouble tickets for logical groups of
incident reports.  The Trouble Ticket application then manages these
trouble tickets to successful resolution.

      Configuration Management and Version Control (CMVC) provides a
defect management system for software problems.  It allows a CMVC
user to create a defect to report a software anomaly.  CMVC then
manages these defects to resolution.

      Thus, both Trouble Ticket and CMVC record defects.  Today they
do so independently.  This disclosure proposes a mechanism to bridge
the data between these two products.

      Solution - Whenever a trouble ticket is opened, a CMVC defect
will be created.  This will be done using CMVC's command line, as
illustrated in the Figure.
